All he saw was you

Romans 5:8

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Even as they scourged him, he gave breath to the soldiers’ lungs.

With each nail driven into his hands, he kept their hearts beating steady.

As they mocked, casting lots over his robe, he willed their minds to fire and their bodies to move.

He endured it all—for you.

He saw you.

In that moment, he looked through the ages and saw how sin kept you bound, holding you back from his presence.

He knew there was no other way for you to be free unless he bore it all to the end. It had to be finished.

So he gave them the strength to strike, to spit, to scorn.

He saw you, the tears on your face, the weight you carry, the burdens that press down with a force you can’t bear alone.

He knew they would crush you, would break you, unless he took every step up that hill, bearing them himself on Calvary.

He saw you.

So he gave them breath.

He gave them strength.

He kept their hearts beating with every blow they dealt, with every mockery they cast his way, Even as they drove the nails, binding him between heaven and earth.

Yet his eyes, they held you.

All he saw was you.

And for you, he finished it all.
