Of the 56 men that signed the Declaration of Independence, most of them never became famous.
Most of them lost everything.
And most of them are rarely spoken of.
Yet because of them, being willing to risk ALL for freedom, you have the privilege to celebrate today.
The black robed regiment was a group of influential preachers who encouraged their congregations to fight for freedom.
Had they kept politics from the church, they would’ve sided with the enemy in their silence.
One preacher stood before his congregation, and stripped himself of the black robe that most ministers wore, revealing his uniform as an officer of the continental army, a dramatic call to arms toward his congregation.
Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God, a statement made by Benjamin Franklin, was demonstrated practically by these men, who stirred a love for freedom in their congregations.
During the battle for Iwo Jima, one flag was raised on the top of the mountain, it was the first flag to be raised on Japanese territory.
But the soldiers quickly decided that it was too small to be seen from the northern side of the Suribachi. So, the marines quickly searched for a larger replacement from a tank ship.
So that there would be no question of who had won that day, because the Stars and Stripes flew.
This was a moment that my grandfather himself was a participant, and fondly recalled watching the flag being raised and what it meant to him, as a very young man, who believed in what he was fighting for.
And there have been many moments since, when our freedoms have been challenged. Many have lost their lives , and given all. Others have given much of their life, and have lost limbs in the fight to protect freedom.
Many have stood in between you and those who seek to destroy this great nation, and now, as our administration seeks to bring down these truths we hold to be self evident.
It’s time for Patriots to rise and defend what so many bled and died for.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men (yes, even the unborn) are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…”
Happy Independence Day, may we teach our children the truth of history and how this nation came to be. May we stand, no matter the cost, because we see the value of these certain unalienable rights. May we all stand for the flag, the Stars and Stripes, and may they forever wave proudly over this great land.
