Matthew 27:34-35
“They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet,
They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”
Gall is an anesthetic. When it was offered to Jesus on the cross, a small escape from His pain, He refused it. He chose to suffer the entire weight of Calvary without relief—fully bearing the agony of sin, shame, and sorrow. He suffered it all so that in our suffering, He can draw near and say, “I know. I know your pain.”
Life has a way of isolating us, doesn’t it? Pain feels like a solitary prison. But there is nothing like the comfort of someone who has walked the same road and looks you in the eye to say, “I’ve been there. I understand.”
I don’t know what burden you’re carrying today, but Jesus sees you. He refused the easy way out at Calvary because He wanted to fully know your suffering. He wanted to meet you in the deepest, darkest valleys of your life with this promise: “You are not alone.”
Maybe your heart is so heavy that you don’t even know what to pray. Maybe the sorrow feels too deep for words. But here is the truth: the Holy Spirit is praying for you right now.
He was praying for you through the night when your tears fell in silence.
He was praying for you when that phone call turned your world upside down.
He was praying for you when betrayal pierced your heart.
He was praying for you when exhaustion overwhelmed you, and hope seemed distant.
He was praying for you in the doctor’s office, in the moment anxiety gripped you, in the season depression lingered.
He was praying for you when you felt unseen and unheard.
He never stops praying for you.
Because your pain is known. Your suffering is understood. The One who carried the full weight of the cross knows exactly how to come alongside you, to comfort you, to strengthen you. He sees you.
So, take another step. Walk another mile. Not because the pain isn’t real, but because you are not walking alone.
The One who bore it all is with you. The One who prays without ceasing holds you in His love. The One who conquered death is offering you victory—even in the valley.
You can rest today, not because life is easy, but because He knows you.
You are seen. You are heard. You are held.
And with Him, you are never alone.
