1 Samuel 17:29
“And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
If David was going to slay Goliath today, he would’ve been harassed, by people who were allegedly on the same side as him, and told to stop causing division.
Stop judging Goliath.
Stop trying to act like you’re better.
You’re a legalist.
You’re supposed to love people!
You and the stones you have drawn from the brook, you’re not making a difference, and that’s not how Jesus would behave.
Why would you talk to Goliath so awfully!? That’s so triggering.
And maybe, David’s brothers did say some of those things, as they hid in their tents from Goliath.
But David, was the only one willing to stand and say, “is there not a cause?” He was the only one willing to refuse the armor from Saul, he had not proved it, and even though all the others were wearing some like it, he didn’t trust it.
He trusted the protection of the Lord more than he trusted a strange armor he had not proved.
He was the only one willing to talk to back to Goliath.
He was the only one who was willing to, not only, rock the boat, but turn it over. He was the only one willing to stand and fight, call out the enemy.
But a little shepherd boy, was victorious over Goliath, the Philistines, and even his own army. The little boy, that every one saw as a trouble maker, was the one who led them all to victory.
He could look back, when the next battle raged, as Goliath’s sword, and know that taking a stand and fighting was STILL right.
As everyone cries out against you, gather your stones, and get ready to face the giant.
You don’t have to wear the armor of popularity.
You don’t have to lay down your stones in the name of tolerance.
You don’t have to allow the giant to continue to stand and defy the Lord, just so you don’t “hurt feelings.”
Stand tall.
Ready your sling.
Refuse the armor.
Be bold.
Be willing to be uncomfortable, and be willing to stand alone.
Because as the years go by, there will be more battles, but you’ll be able to look back at the sword of Goliath and know that it’s worth the stand.
So here’s your reminder, if you stand alone, stand tall.
