Tend your flock

1 Samuel 17:28-29

“And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”

“…those few sheep…”

The first thing Eliab did was belittle David and where he had been faithful.

It was time for David to step into more, and the first thing he heard, was that he was no way qualified.

He had been faithfully doing what the Father had asked him to do and Eliab wanted to feel that his obedience was small, insignificant, and meaningless. When in fact, it had prepared him to best a giant.

That flock wouldn’t have been small. They used sheep for everything, that was their livelihood, their food, their sacrifices.

They couldn’t afford to have a small flock.

Yet Eliab wanted David to feel insignificant, as though his time caring for sheep had been wasted.

The enemy will always seek to undermine your obedience and faithfulness, like it doesn’t matter that you have been doing what the Father called you to do.

This why many don’t go to further levels with the Lord, they don’t slay the giants taunting them. All because the enemy made sure that they felt as though their labor had been in vain with a “few sheep.”

Tending those few sheep will teach you to how to kill a giant in the future, all because you guarded those sheep faithfully.

Your obedience and faithfulness to what the Father has asked you to do is BIG.

No matter who says it’s small.

No matter who says it’s insignificant.

No matter who says that you’ve been wasting your time.

Obedience, is never a waste of time.

Faithfulness is never in vain.

When you face giants of the future, you will be thankful that you stayed in the field, even though you were belittled.

Stay faithful, stay obedient.

Your labor is not in vain.

It’s worth it.

David was a man after God’s own heart, but was accused of just tending a few sheep.

It’s not the size of what you’re faithful in that creates a heart in you like Christ.

It’s just the faithfulness and obedience that does that.

Keep tending your flock.

It’s not small.
