“If God has made your cup sweet, drink it with grace; or even if He has made it bitter, drink it in communion with Him. If the providential will of God means a hard and difficult time for you, go through it.”

The sweet cup is always what we want.

We remember its delight so keenly when a bitter cup is pressed to our lips.

But it was Jesus himself who also drank a bitter cup.

There is no sweeter communion with him, than sharing that bitter cup.

Yes, the sweet cup looks most appealing, but would you have known him so deeply had you not also partook of that bitter cup?

There is no closer communion than sharing a cup. There is no closer relationship than sharing the same cup.

Yes, you may not have chosen it, but what a sweet communion you have shared. You would have never known him this way, had you only had cups of sweetness.

Would you have seen his heart, if you were not sharing that bitter cup?

Maybe it actually is the bitter cup that is the sweetest, because it is there that you commune with the One who took the bitter cup for you, so that you would never walk alone…even in this.

Yes, maybe it’s the bitter cup that is actually the sweetest 🤍
