The Holy Things

I heard an excellent message Sunday night.

In this message, Obededom was referenced.

Did you know that Obededom’s house was one of the two that scripture specifically says “And God blessed the house of…?”

Why was his home blessed and everything he did prospered?

Because the ark of God was kept in his home for a short period of time.

He opened his home to the presence of God and God honored that.

When they came to get the ark and take it to the temple, he followed and he took his kids with him. He was unwilling to allow them to grow up anywhere but in the presence of God.

And later, when Judah invaded Israel, Obededom was there, guarding the holy things, no matter the cost.

To guard the holy things, Obededom had to side with that which is holy against everything and everyone else.

Judah and Israel were the same people, just 2 separate kings. It could’ve been family that came against him to take the holy things. It could’ve been friends….it could’ve been someone he trusted and looked up too.

But he still chose to side with the holy things.

His love for the holy things started in his home, privately. Our families see us at our best and worst. But he chose to center his entire home around the presence of God, which is why the ark was safe there.

That private devotion to holy, that home life, spilled over into the church and Obededom and his family became deeply involved and pillars in the church. They started as door keepers, they didn’t go in and demand a spotlight role. They were willing to serve WHEREVER the presence of God was. And they served as a family.

As they were willing to serve in whatever capacity needed, they were eventually entrusted with guarding the holy things, the gold and silver vessels of the tabernacle.

You won’t be trusted with the Holy things if the Lord doesn’t find you trustworthy with the little things.

To protect the Holy things, you may have to side with Holy against friends, family, popularity, and even yourself.

If you want to be a home that God blesses, holiness is going to have to mean more to you than anything else.

I’m sure Obededom had people tell him that he didn’t have to go “that far” with his family and the Lord. They didn’t have to serve in the temple. The Lord was already blessing Obededom’s home, so wasn’t that enough?

But because he chose the MORE, his children were exposed to the holy things.

They never would’ve had that exposure had he chosen to stay home, because God was already blessing and that was “enough.”

If you’re satisfied with “enough,” you’ll never experience the Lord’s more than enough!
