You cannot glow with his presence and be popular

Exodus 34:29-30

“And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.”

Moses met with the Lord on the mountain.

When he returned to camp, it showed.

He literally GLOWED.

And those who hadn’t been in the Lord’s presence were afraid of him. They avoid him.

He went uninvited because of his choice to walk with the Lord.

And that bothered him.

Because he put a veil over his face.

He “dimmed down” the glow, to make it more palatable for those around him so he would no longer be avoided.

And it’s never recorded that he ever experienced the Lord’s presence that way again. There is no record that the Lord’s presence changed his appearance again. There is no record that he ever had that glow again.

Because it was uncomfortable, it’s likely he never sought it again.

Sometimes, choosing the Lord equals choosing loneliness. Sometimes choosing the Lord equals being avoided, or going uninvited, and unnoticed.

The moment you start seeking to make yourself more palatable for those around you, is the moment you prioritize popularity over his presence.

Do not veil the effects of God’s presence in order to be more accepted or popular, it may just be that he will not invite you back in again. The Lord wants to fellowship with you.

How it must shatter his heart when you feel the need to veil the effects of his presence, so that you won’t be avoided or uninvited.

The more you try to make yourself palatable for others down here, you make yourself less prepared to be in his presence.

You cannot crave popularity of men and the glow of his presence at the same time.
