Your tears water the flowers in the valley

“Why are you keeping me here?”

I can imagine Job and his wife cried that out in desperation as their life seemed to spiral out of control.

“Why are you keeping me here?”

I’m sure that was part of Hannah’s desperate prayer in the temple, the prayer where she was so broken that Eli accused her of being drunk.

“Why are you keeping me here?”

Likely escaped David’s lips as he hid in caves and hills from Saul, and he was promised the throne.

“Why are you keeping me here?”

I’m sure the woman with the issue of blood cried out this same phrase as she spent everything she had to try to find healing.

Over and over, we’ve all asked that question.

Where is the healing?

Where is the deliverance?

Where is the promise?

Why are you keeping me here?

But those in scripture, who had to walk through dark times, how many of us have found comfort, hope, and strength through their suffering?

Maybe that’s why he kept them there.

For you.

So that the flowers that bloomed through their adversity would give you sweet comfort as you walk through your own valley.

Your ministry is found where you’ve been broken. Broken pieces fall like seeds, which sprout and bloom and fragrance the valley for those who come behind you.

He won’t keep you here.

But he may allow you to stay long enough for your brokenness to help heal someone else.

Maybe the valley isn’t just about you.

Maybe it’s about who is coming behind you.

Flowers grow in the valley, your tears may have to water them, but they will comfort the next person to have to walk this path.

And they’ll be thankful for you, and your time in the valley 🤍
